Explore the valley of glaciers- the Langtang valley with our Langtang Gosaikunda Trek
Our trek starts with a tour around the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Kathmandu. We visit the holy Hindu shrine of Pashupatinath, the Buddhist pilgrimage of Boudhanath and Monkey Temple (Swayambhunath Stupa) and the symbol of excellent Nepalese architectural skill, Patan Durbar Square. The actual trek begins from Syaprubesi village at the bank of Bhote Koshi River, after a drive from Kathmandu. Moving further, we traverse along the Langtang River and through the oak, rhododendron and bamboo forests to reach higher altitudes. Walking through the Lama Hotel and the beautiful Langtang village, we reach the ancient Kyanjin Gompa. This is an ancient monastery dating back to around 1300 AD that displays ancient Buddhist practices and rituals.
From here, we hike up to Kyanjin Ri and backtrack through the Syabru village and around the Sing Gompa. Next, we reach the Gosaikunda Lake which is also the highlight of our trek. The lake is said to be formed when Lord Shiva pierced a glacier with his Trident. And it is believed that this holy water surfaces in Kumbeshwar pool next to the five-storied Shiva Temple in Patan. After exploring the other major lakes of Saraswati Kunda and Bhairab Kunda. We shall traverse through Ghopte to reach Lauribinayak Pass (4610m). Trekkers can see amazing views of Mt. Manaslu, Mt. Ganesh and Mt. Langtang Lirung from the top of the pass. Lastly, our trek advances through Kutumsang, Chisapani and Sundarijal. After that we end our trek with a drive back to the capital city.
Final Thoughts:
This trek offers you the blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, strong Hindu faith and peacefulness of Buddhism. And, because this is a moderately strenuous trek, you will need to be physically fit with ability to walk for 6-7 hours a day. Lastly, we recommend Sep to Dec and March to May as the best time for doing Langtang Gosaikunda Trek
